Soba in real life.

Soba is a common Japanese noodle dish and has made several appearances in the Cooking Mama series.

Info[]

Soba is the Japanese term for buckwheat. Soba is somewhat the opposite of udon, being a very thin noodle made from buckwheat flour, giving it a dull, brown color. It is usually served cold on a tray, though some may prefer eating it warm. In the Cooking Mama series, the chilled variant is made, where buckwheat dough is sliced with a special knife, boiled, strained, and chilled.

Soba is typically paired with a strong dipping sauce made of dashi stock, sweet soy sauce, and rice wine, but any other sauce can be used.

Trivia[]

  • Every soba recipe in the Cooking Mama series (with the exception of the original Cooking Mama recipe) has been shown to be made without wheat flour. While not impossible, this is an exceedingly daunting task that some may avoid because the lack of gluten in the dough would make the noodles dry and crumbly.
