A macaron is a sweet little baked cookie made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder, and food coloring. Often they are known for their lovely colors and delicate size among other qualities.
They share the name with the other well known "Macaroon" but are totally different. Macarons refer to the French variety while "macaroons" lack the delicate piped shape and is often coarser in texture. Unsurprisingly, both terms are often used interchangeably. The American localization of the Cooking Mama series uses the term "Macaroon" for their recipes.
